Barru Regent Opens Alun-Alun English Camp Chapter 2: Encourages the Establishment of an “English Village” in Barru

Barru – B88News.id – Barru Regent, Andi Ina Kartika Sari, S.H., M.Si., officially opened the Alun-Alun English Camp Chapter 2 organized by the Barru Regency Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) in collaboration with youth organizations at Colliq Pujie Town Square, Barru Regency, on Friday (May 22, 2026).

In her remarks, the Regent expressed appreciation for the event initiated by Karang Taruna together with youth organizations and supported by the Barru Regency Government.

According to her, the English Camp is not merely about learning English, but also about building the spirit of the younger generation so they can compete and become active contributors to development in the global era.

“If you master English, you will not only become spectators, but also actors who help advance our beloved region, Barru Regency,” she said.

The Regent emphasized that English proficiency is very important in the era of globalization. However, she also reminded the younger generation not to neglect Arabic language skills and to continue upholding religious values.
“Never stop learning English, but do not abandon Arabic. You must still be able to read the Qur’an and maintain religious values,” she told the participants.

On the occasion, the Regent also introduced the idea of establishing an “English Village” in Barru Regency as a center for language learning and skill development for young people.

She encouraged Karang Taruna and youth organizations to begin preparing concepts and teams to realize the program with support from the local government.

“If other regions can have an English Village, why can’t Barru? The government is ready to support it, it just depends on how the youth take the lead in making it happen,” she stressed.

According to her, the event’s theme, “Strengthening Barru Regency’s Commitment to a More Organized and Inclusive Education System,” is highly strategic in preparing Barru’s younger generation to become excellent, confident, creative, and globally competitive.
“Through this activity, we want to emphasize that Barru Regency continues to move forward in building a better, more organized education system that provides equal opportunities for all Barru children to develop according to their potential,” Andi Ina stated.

In addition to motivating the participants, the event atmosphere became even warmer when the Regent shared her childhood experiences of learning English through songs, poetry, and even reciting Pancasila in English, which was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants.

At the end of her speech, the Regent expressed hope that the activity would bring great benefits to Barru’s young generation and continue to improve in quality in the future.

“Take as many positive lessons as possible. Youth is the best time to learn and absorb good things for your future,” she concluded.

Earlier, Barru Regency Karang Taruna Chairman Muhammad Ishak, S.E., M.AP., explained that the English Camp program is now supported by Barru’s local English community, reflecting the independence of youth in building a learning ecosystem.

He also proposed the establishment of an English Ecosystem at Barru Town Square as a free literacy and learning space for elementary and junior high school students, inspired by the spirit of “Mapadeceng” to encourage positive change for Barru’s younger generation.
The two-day event was attended by 200 participants consisting of junior and senior high school students from across Barru Regency.

On the same occasion, Chairman of MPKT Barru, Ir. Muh. Yulianto Badwi, expressed appreciation to Barru Regent Andi Ina Kartika Sari for her strong attention to youth activities and youth capacity development.

“Alhamdulillah, last year this activity was also held in the same place by Karang Taruna. This shows that the spirit of youth in Barru continues to grow and develop,” he said.

According to him, Karang Taruna serves as a platform capable of uniting various organizations and youth backgrounds in the spirit of collaboration and regional development.

The event was also attended by the Barru Regional Secretary, Forkopimda officials, the Chairpersons of Bawaslu and KPUD, heads of regional agencies (OPD), youth organizations, Karang Taruna administrators at regency, district, and village/urban ward levels, as well as participants from various schools across Barru Regency.
